CAPS Mission & Activities

Our Mission

Communication Arts Partners (CAPS) constitutes the Communication Arts board of visitors. CAPS members serve as an advisory and support group who volunteer time, expertise, and personal resources to support the Department’s teaching, research, and outreach efforts.

CAPS works in close collaboration with Department leadership to advance the mission and priorities of Communication Arts — advocating on its behalf, offering professional insight and counsel, and providing both time and financial support to ensure the Department’s long-term vitality and excellence.

CAPS Activities

CAPS members engage in a range of initiatives that support and enhance the Communication Arts Department:

Ambassadorship & Alumni Outreach

Acting as ambassadors for the Department, participating in alumni outreach efforts aimed at increasing awareness, stature, and financial support for Communication Arts.

Student Career Development

Providing advice and counsel in matters relating to students entering the communication field as professionals, and assisting with career development opportunities such as internships.

Financial Support & Stewardship

Providing financial support to the Department through annual gift pledges and particular gifting initiatives such as scholarship funding, the Hellum Internship Fund, and campus-wide giving events.

Meetings & Structure

To carry out its mission, CAPS convenes as a committee of the whole twice yearly for extended business meetings — once during fall semester and once during spring semester. CAPS’ various ongoing priorities and initiatives are reviewed and updated annually.

All CAPS members also serve on at least one standing committee which works through the course of the year to sustain and advance particular initiatives.

Annual Meeting Schedule

CAPS meets twice per year as a full board. Travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of individual members and may be tax-deductible.

Committee Work Year-Round

Standing committees work continuously throughout the academic year on specific initiatives, reporting back to the full board at the twice-yearly meetings.
