CAPS MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES
CAPs membership will be comprised of a select group of 30-35 Active members and a flexible number of Emeritus members.
The Chair and Associate Chair of Communication Arts and the Department’s UW Foundation representative serve ex officio.
A CAPs Chair and Vice Chair are selected from the membership.
Active CAPs members will typically serve renewable three-year terms. Emeritus members will typically serve in perpetuity.
CAPs board members are selected to represent the diversity, breadth of occupations, and varied accomplishments of the Communication Arts alumni community, and CAPs members observe the following guidelines:
- Participation in CAPs business meetings each year, typically one in fall and one in spring: Costs associated with transportation and accommodations for meeting attendance are born by individual members (and may be tax deductible).
- Participation in CAPs initiatives: Members are encouraged to offer their time and expertise in support of particular CAPs initiatives that enhance the Communication Arts Department (e.g., mentoring, alumni outreach and engagement, fundraising initiatives, securing internship opportunities, etc.).
- Financial support for Communication Arts: In line with the CAPs mission of financial stewardship for Communication Arts and to promote for the Department’s long-term well-being, members make an annual donation of $1500 to the Communication Arts Annual Fund. A portion of these gifts are used to defray costs associated with CAPs meetings and related expenses. The Department Chair may, at the request of the individual CAPs member, waive all or part of the annual pledge.
- Committee membership: All CAPs members serve on at least one of the board’s five standing committees and assist in fulfilling the committee’s mission: Internships, Board Development, Communication, Fundraising, Engagement.
Emeritus CAPs members are encouraged to continue to advocate on behalf of the Department and to give generously to Communication Arts.
