Professor Sara McKinnon receives Vilas Associate Award

Sara McKinnon was awarded the 2020-2021 Vilas Associate Award for a project titled Violent Rhetoric: Constructions of Mexico in US Media and Politics.

Violent Rhetoric examines contemporary US discourses of violence in Mexico to question how violence is imagined, the material impacts of the discourse on daily life in the country, and what this image of the country does for US influence and power in the region.

The Vilas Associates Competition recognizes new and ongoing research of the highest quality and significance. Recipients are chosen competitively by the Divisional Research Committees of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education on the basis of a detailed proposal.
