Comm Arts Welcomes New WCFTR Assistant Director

The Department of Communication Arts is pleased to announce that Mary K. Huelsbeck will be joining us as the new Assistant Director of the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research. She replaces Ben Brewster, who retired as the Center’s Assistant Director last year.

Ms. Huelsbeck comes to the WCFTR from the Black Film Center/Archive (BFC/A) at Indiana University-Bloomington, where she has for the last several years been the Archivist and Head of Public and Technology Services. She holds master’s degrees in History and Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She brings with her a strong background in archival administration and much valuable experience that will greatly benefit the WCFTR.

The WCFTR, a partnership between Comm Arts and the Wisconsin Historical Society, is home to one of the United States’ largest archives of research materials relating to film, theater, radio, and television. The Center holds more than 300 manuscript collections, 15,000 motion pictures and television shows, 2,000,000 still photographs, and several thousand sound recordings. Administered by UW-Madison, WCFTR’s collections are cared for and housed in the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Library-Archives Division. For more information about the WCFTR, please visit the Center’s website.
