Professor Derek Johnson Awarded H. I. Romnes Faculty Fellowship

Media and Cultural Studies Professor Derek Johnson has been awarded a coveted H. I. Romnes Faculty Fellowship from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

This year, Professor Johnson and ten other faculty at UW–Madison received the award, which is named in recognition of the late Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) trustee president H.I. Romnes, and comes with $60,000 in research funds that may be spent over five years. Professor Johnson’s research focuses on media industries, particularly looking at the cultural and creative struggles of production, and how those struggles “relate to the idea of the future and the reproduction of content, markets, and authority over time.” With his specialty in popular television, film, video games, and comics, we anticipate Professor Johnson will produce some fascinating work with the Romnes Fellowship.

Congratulations, Derek!
