Steve Scadden Joins CAPS Board to Support Student Career Exploration

Headshot: Steve Scadden

The Communication Arts Partners (CAPS) board is pleased to welcome Steve Scadden (BA ’91) as a new member. With more than 30 years of experience in media advertising and sales, Scadden brings a valuable perspective to CAPS’ work supporting Communication Arts students as they explore career opportunities.

Scadden credits an internship at New York City’s Katz Media Group during his time at UW–Madison with helping launch his career. That experience sparked his interest in media and reinforced the value of mentorship and professional connections—something he now hopes to offer to the next generation of Badgers.

After returning to Madison, Scadden began his television sales career at WISC-TV, where a short-term role grew into a 27-year career and ultimately the Director of Sales. In 2019, he joined Miller Kaplan, where he is now a partner and applies his media and advertising background to help clients analyze trends, develop revenue strategies, and strengthen industry training.

Scadden has previously served on boards including the Madison Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Board and Sports Commission. After stepping back from board work during his career transition, he felt ready to re-engage and found a strong fit with CAPS through his connection with board chair Erik Hellum and their shared commitment to UW–Madison.

As a Communication Arts alum, Scadden understands how important career guidance can be for students preparing for life after graduation. He hopes to help students see the wide range of paths available to them and better connect with alumni whose experiences can inform and inspire their own next steps.

Through his service on the CAPS board, Scadden looks forward to supporting current Comm Arts students as they explore careers, build connections, and prepare for professional success.
