Professor Michele Hilmes’ Retirement and Accolades

In her many years as a scholar, Professor Michele Hilmes has been no stranger to awards and praise for her work. It should come as no surprise then that she has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the Wayne Danielson award for distinguished contributions to communications scholarship. The award is bestowed by the Moody College of Communications at the University of Texas-Austin, and was established in honor of Wayne Danielson, the second dean of the College.

Professor Michele Hilmes has been a media scholar for almost thirty years and has spent twenty-two of them as a faculty member in the Department of Communication Arts at UW-Madison. As the spring semester comes to a close, Professor Hilmes will be retiring, making the Wayne Danielson award a timely one, and also one that is extremely well-deserved. Over the years, Professor Hilmes has had a profoundly positive impact on her colleagues, students, and the field of media and cultural studies. Her peers have begun publishing her praise on the Antenna blog, posting five stories in the last week with more to come. To just begin to understand the quality of her character, read the Honoring Hilmes posts here.

Congratulations, Michele, on the award, your tremendous career, and your retirement. You will be deeply missed!
