Near the end of the 2015 spring semester, Communication Arts major Hannah Akbik won the Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies Thematic Undergraduate Essay Contest!
Akbik’s essay, entitled Technology and the Evolution of Human Health, was written for Professor Jenell Johnson’s course Comm Arts 472: Rhetoric and Technology. The essay explores Akbik’s experience with her Fitbit Charge HR, which fit the contest’s prompt that asked students to discuss a situation in their lives where they are revealing or trying to keep from revealing information. Akbik went on to submit it to the contest, which accepts submissions from undergrads across the entire UW System. Akbik’s took top honors, earning her a $500 prize.
Congratulations, Hannah, on your excellent work!
