Professor of Human Development and Family Studies

Dr. Heather Kirkorian is a Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she holds the Laura M. Secord Chair in Early Childhood Development. She is also a faculty affiliate in the departments of Psychology, Educational Psychology, and Communication Arts. Dr. Kirkorian is a developmental psychologist who studies early childhood development and family well-being in the digital age. She uses a combination of behavioral, observational, and psychophysiological methods to study how media use relates to children’s learning, cognition, and social-emotional skills; parents’ mental health and well-being; and parent-child interactions. Her collaborative work with the CAFE Consortium includes the development of multi-method approaches to measure the family media ecology in different contexts.
