The Comm Arts department is pleased to announce the addition of Amy Schultz as an Undergraduate Advisor. Comm Arts continues to grow as one of the most popular majors on campus, and Amy arrives as a great asset to help our faculty and staff meet the academic and career advising needs of our more than 800 undergraduate majors and applicants. She is working part-time alongside Mary Rossa, primarily assisting new applicants to the Comm Arts major as well as prospective students who are considering pursuing the major. Her duties also include performing outreach to other programs across campus, as well as helping to establish stronger connections between Comm Arts and campus enrichment and transfer programs. In addition, she will hold information sessions with students and refer Comm Arts students to other relevant student services offices for academic and career advising as needed.
Amy has been hired through the Madison Initiative for Undergraduates (MIU). The MIU is a “campuswide effort to boost the value, quality and affordability of an undergraduate education” for UW-Madison students and their families. Campus advising has been one of the MIU’s highest priority objectives. Amy’s position here in Comm Arts is among 15 new academic and career advising positions that the university recently created campus-wide.
Amy comes to Comm Arts from the History department, where she previously worked as an Undergraduate Program Assistant. As a result, Amy joins the department already possessing a strong ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff, as well as bringing with her extensive experience with the UW-Madison campus, academic programs, and resources. She was also an undergraduate student here at the UW-Madison, majoring in History and Psychology. Amy then went on to earn a Master of Science (MS) degree in Counseling from UW-Whitewater.
Amy started in her position back in mid-March, and she is now available to meet with students. She holds regular walk-in hours, in addition to being available for scheduled appointments. Her office is located in 6070 Vilas Hall. Please visit the Advising page of the Comm Arts website to contact Amy, find out her current walk-in advising hours, and more.
