Jacob Valov’s research addresses how communication impacts self-concept and identity, specifically across mediated channels such as social media. In prior work, Jacob has addressed effects of diametrically-opposed, public self-presentations on self-concept, group identification and bonding through posting memes about experiencing severe depression on Reddit, and radicalization of fan power structures in sports through the online sport-simulator Blaseball.
